Vaughn Grave

Saranac, Clinton County, New York
NOTES: The following information is from the book, The Saranac Valley, Volume One: The Pioneers by Sarah Baker, page 7, "The first settler in the Town of Saranac is recorded in Averill's Geography as being a Kenniston family. They settled on "The Flats" by the river in the eastern part of the town in 1785. No further note is made of this family; however, that this area was inhabited by 1829, is marked by a small tombstone situated on the boundary line between the Baker farm and DeWein residence. Twenty years ago there were four of these stones, but today only one remains bearing the inscription:

In Memory of Hepzibel, daughter of Ransom B. and Hepzibel VAUGHN, died 1829, age 15 months."
